Abstract:

In 2025, the Altai Republic celebrated the centenary of the birth of Sazon Saimovich Surazakov (1925–1980), a distinguished scholar, Doctor of Philology, professor, and writer. A centerpiece of the commemorative events was the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference, “Modern Trends in the Development of Humanities: Achievements and Prospects,” held on July 3, 2025, in Gorno-Altaysk. The conference served as a platform to discuss the legacy of S. S. Surazakov and the future of Altaic studies. The program reflected Surazakov’s broad research interests, including Turkic-Mongolian epic heritage, linguistics, and literature. Plenary reports highlighted his foundational role in the history of Siberian education and science. Thematic sections delved into the national worldviews of Turkic writers, issues in Turkic grammar and phonetics, and historical-cultural interactions across Eurasia. The section “Modern Trends in the Development of the Languages of Turkic-Mongolian Peoples” covered issues of grammar, vocabulary, and phonetics of the Turkic languages. The section “Historical and Cultural Interactions and Traditions of the Peoples of Eurasia” discussed the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, while the section “Society and Social Processes in a Multiethnic Region” was devoted to current issues of contemporary society. A significant highlight of the anniversary was the publication of a reprint of Surazakov’s seminal monograph, Altai Heroic Epic (Altayskiy geroicheskiy epos). The event successfully strengthened ties within the scientific community, facilitating a vital exchange of ideas and reinforcing the continuity of Surazakov’s scholarly tradition in the 21st century.
