ArticleName: Causative-intensive semantic complex in the Buryat language Authors: E. A. Dadueva Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ulan-Ude, Russia In the section Синтаксис
Abstract: This article examines causative constructions in the Buryat language that express the semantics of intensity. The study contributes to the comprehensive analysis of the interaction between the functional-semantic categories of causativity and intensity. The primary objective is to identify and describe the semantic and structural components of Buryat causative-intensive constructions. The novelty of the research lies in its being the first attempt in Buryat linguistics to determine the function and significance of linguistic means of intensity within causative frameworks. The research material is drawn from the Electronic Corpus of the Buryat Language [BK] and empirical observations of native speaker discourse. The results demonstrate that causative-intensive constructions represent a synthesis of two distinct linguistic categories—causation and intensity. Together, they form a complex semantic unit that expresses various facets of causative influence. The study reveals a set of expressive means that differentiate nuances such as the strength, degree, duration, resultativity, and controllability of the influence. Furthermore, the paper illustrates how means of expressing intensity can both enhance and modify causative semantics. Finally, the causative-intensive complex is shown to carry an emotive load, reflecting the various emotional states of the speaker through syntactic patterns such as tautology and repetition.
