ArticleName: Questions of the theory of the syntactic structure of the Yakut language in the works of N. N. Efremov Authors: N. I. Danilova, F. N. Dyachkovsky Institute of Humanitarian Research and Problems of Small Peoples of the North SB RAS, Yakutsk, Russian Federation In the section Научная жизнь
Abstract: This article examines the most significant milestones in the life and scientific activity of N. N. Efremov, Doctor of Philology. He focuses on the key elements in the development of Yakut grammatical theory, building upon the scholarly legacy of Yakut linguistics and the syntactic school of the Institute of Philology SB RAS. His significant contribution to Yakut grammatical tradition was the articulation of the predicative-correlative element within polypredicative constructions, expressed through participial, adverbial, and indirect mood forms. The research is based on the fundamental syntactic structure of Turkic languages: “definition + definable.” According to him, complex sentences are formed by expanding the structure and meaning of simple sentences. Of significance is his involvement in the collective study of functional and semantic categories in the Yakut language, with particular attention to the categories of evidentiality, locativity and constructions with verbs of movement. Efremov is one of the authors of the Great Explanatory Dictionary of the Yakut Language. Beyond grammatical, lexicological, and lexicographical studies of the Yakut language, his scholarship extends to the linguistic features of Yakut folklore and literature, specifically examining the Olonkho of T. V. Zakharov-Chebiya, the writings of S. A. Zverev-Kyyl Uol, and the works of prominent Yakut authors including A. E. Kulakovsky, P. A. Oyunsky, and A. I. Sofronov. The shcolar’s interests include the issues of local history, popularization of science and its achievements. His research and public work have significantly impacted the development of modern methods and ideas within Yakut linguistics and numerous humanities disciplines.
