ArticleName: Metaphorical models with verbs of movement in the Khanty language (against the background of the Mansi language) Authors: V. N. Solovar Ob-Ugric Institute of Applied Researches and Development, Khanty-Mansiysk, Russian Federation In the section Лексикология
Abstract: The article discusses phraseological combinations of the Khanty and Mansi languages, which are based on the metaphor of movement. These combinations represent the mental and physical state of a person, their experience of a life situation, a certain state of affairs, interpersonal relationships, and the fulfillment of human needs in the intellectual or social sphere. Metaphorical models trace their origins to prototypical constructions signifying movement toward an animate subject, encompassing movement within the human body, both vertically and internally. The metaphor is formed by non-isosemic filling of the positions of the subject or directive. The role of the subject can be expressed by emotion or state nominations, and the role of directives by the names of a person or parts of the body. Data for this study comprised materials compiled by the author, including expert consultations with native Khanty and Mansi speakers, and data from multiple textual and dictionary sources. Methods implemented in this study include, but are not limited to, component analysis, systematization, classification, modeling, and comparative analysis. A novel contribution of this research is the application of spatial metaphor as a basis for analyzing the development of figurative meanings of verbs of motion within physiological, emotional, intellectual, and social spheres, using Ob-Ugric languages as a primary source. This research is relevant given the imminent risk of extinction facing the Khanty and Mansi languages. Phraseology as the most idiomatic and figurative part of the lexical composition of the language is seen to be displaced by everyday speech.
